Friday, November 9: The theme for the Weekly Photo Challenge is Renewal.
Liturgy is like a strong tree whose beauty is derived from the continuous renewal of its leaves, but whose strength comes from the old trunk, with solid roots in the ground. ~ Pope Paul VI
Education involves a continual renewal of the mind. These three Ethiopian girls are on their way to school.
Renewal can also be just relaxing with friends and playing a game, even if the game involves using bottle caps for checkers.
Renewal. This word conjures a variety of images, from bright blossoms to meditating monks. When I think of “renewal,” I think of starting a new job, arriving in a new city that’s ripe for exploration, walking through a new apartment with white walls, and taking a hot shower after a challenging day. I think of beginnings. Life. Opportunity. What images does Renewal conjure for you? Get creative. Think beyond the usual images (a sunrise, a birth). We want to see what else you can come up with.
Beautiful choices for this challenge – I am still mulling it over. Your photos are wonderful – I love the bright colors.
Thanks so much, Carol. I don’t know why I’m always drawn to photograph bright colors. I guess that’s why sometimes the Oman landscape is so frustrating to me. You’ll see that soon in my upcoming post about the Balcony Walk at Jebel Shams. Dull, dull colors…. 😦
Love your pics for this theme, Cathy. Your photos are really lovely, especially those children. 🙂
Thank you Sylvia! I like challenges like these that make you think on many different levels… 🙂
Cathy these are all great but man I really love the checkerboard and what it represents on a whole bunch of levels
Thanks so much Jo! I know what you mean about the checkerboard. I found myself really drawn to it and to the boys who were playing the game.
Excellent pictures. All three. I especially like the first one as the colors of the painting contrast quite nicely with the room’s mud(?) walls and the priest’s white robe and turban. Nice work.
Thank you so much, Richert. I was really captured by the colors of paintings in these old rock-hewn churches. Thanks for visiting and for your comment. 🙂
The makeshift checkers reminds me of my youth. All lovely pictures.
Thank you Janna! Nice when a photo brings back happy childhood memories! Thanks for visiting and for your comment!
You’re welcome.

June 6, 2016: I love the picture you took on Nov. 4, 2012 of Lake Langano, Ethiopia! Is it tacky, rude, and awful of me to ask if I can buy an electronic copy of it to print onto fabric to use as a background for a large applique fabric elephant I want to make to hang on my wall in my house? I’m very sick and am stuck at home all of the time except for doctor’s appointments. Other than laying on the couch and watching TV, I like to make quilt tops, and making a large elephant to hang on the wall is my next project! Now that I’ve discovered your blog, I can travel now too! Thanks so much. Fran in Parker, CO Frolfsen@msn.com
I’m fine with that, Fran. How much would you like to pay me for it? It wouldn’t be used for any commercial project, right? I’m so sorry you’re so sick. It sounds like it would make a good backdrop for your elephant quilt. Let me know how you’d like to handle this. 🙂
